What is collected, and why

This site collects the following.

Analytics (Google Analytics and KARTE)

Cookie identifiers, the pages you view, the referring site, your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. This is used to improve the site, not to identify you personally.

Contact form

Your name, email address, subject, message, the IP address you sent it from, and the language the form was displayed in. This is used to answer you and to keep a record of the exchange.

Translation of enquiries not written in Japanese (Google Cloud Translation)

If your message is not written in Japanese, its subject and body are sent to Google’s translation service so that I can understand it, and the Japanese translation is included in the notification email next to your original wording. Your name and email address are not sent, and messages already in Japanese are not sent at all. The translation is not stored; only your original message is kept.

Bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)

Your IP address and signals about how your browser behaves are sent to Cloudflare to stop automated form submissions.

Web fonts (Google Fonts)

Fonts are loaded from Google servers when a page renders, so your IP address and user agent reach Google.

180 days from submission, in Cloudflare Workers KV, then deleted automatically

For the retention period set by Google Analytics and KARTE respectively

Cookies are used for analytics. If you disable cookies in your browser you can still use the site; you simply drop out of the analytics.

Collection by Google Analytics can also be stopped with the opt-out add-on Google provides.

For visitors in the EU, the EEA and the UK, no analytics cookies are stored and neither Google Analytics nor KARTE runs unless you consent.

Access, correction and deletion

On request I will disclose, correct, restrict the use of, or delete the personal information I hold about you. Please get in touch through the contact form. Requests are acted on without delay once I can confirm the request comes from you.

This site is operated from Japan, and information collected is processed in Japan and in the countries where the providers listed above operate. If you are outside Japan, you can exercise the rights your own jurisdiction grants you through the same contact route.
